SPACE JACK

The goal in the SpaceJack is to beat the Dealer's hand by either of two ways: (1) Draw cards until your hand scores are higher than the the Dealer's without going over 21. (2) Do not draw cards and have the Dealer bust, or exceed 21.

The most common decision a player must make during the game is whether to draw another card to the hands (HIT), or stop at the current total (STAND). If you stand, the Dealer draws, the game ends and winnings for each hand are distributed according to the payoff chart.

A more profitable player option is the choice to DOUBLE DOWN. This can only be done with two card hands, before other cards have been drawn. Doubling down allows you to double your bets (all of them!) and receive one, and only one, additional card to all your hands. WINNINGS

HOW THE DEALER PLAYS HIS HAND

The machine plays its hand in a specific way, with no choices allowed. It must continue to take cards (HIT) until its total is 17 or greater. An Ace in the Dealer's hand is always counted as 11 if possible without the Dealer going over 21. For example, (Ace,8) would be 19 and the Dealer would stop drawing cards (STAND). Also, (Ace,6) is 17 and again the Dealer will stand. (Ace,5) is only 16, so the Dealer would hit. The machine will continue to draw cards until the hand's value is 17 or more. For example, (Ace,5,7) is only 13 so it hits again. (Ace,5,7,5) makes 18 so it would stop (STAND) at that point.

FOR BLACKJACK PLAYERS

The SpaceJack is played with 4 decks which are shuffled after each hand. The Dealer stands on all 17s. The rules are simplified in comparison with the original Blackjack game.
